Steven Gute is a filmmaker who has worn many hats in his now 20-year career. Gute works as a director, producer, writer, cinematographer, journalist and editor, and already has a long resume of credits stretching across a multitude of formats. While his origins lay in narrative films, he eventually worked on a number of documentary films, including: Leonardo Di Caprio's 11th Hour; followed by Radicalized, a portrait of millennial resistance during the Occupy movement; ongoing front-line documentation of protests at Standing Rock and Black Lives Matter; and ultimately, leading a team to the Arctic to film glaciers in decline for HBO’s Ice on Fire. Genéa Gaudet is an award-winning documentary and music video director, editor, and camera woman. Working in both Los Angeles and Joshua Tree, CA, Genéa (pronounced Jenaya) explores gender, memory, relationships, and sexuality in her work. Recently she’s been working on 16mm and 8mm film and experimenting with analog video formats. She is a featured director on Free the Bid and Boyish. Currently Genéa is in post-production on a film called 5 Days – an intimate portrait of a man who faces a five-day trial and 30 years in prison for child molestation. Mitchell Arens is a cinematographer based in Los Angeles working across multiple genres and moving image mediums. He holds an MFA from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts. Sam Slovick has been, or is, a writer, photographer, actor, recording artist, freelance journalist and indie documentary director/shooter/producer. I'm a documentarian, video journalist and photographer currently based in LA. When I'm not in LA I spend a good chunk of my time on assignment in either Chicago or New York City. Some of my past experience includes- head of video production for Sofar Sounds Chicago, camera operator for Audiotree Live Sessions, and photographer for festivals like the Chicago International Movies and Music Festival (CIMM Fest) and Lollapalooza. For 15+ years I’ve enjoyed working on films and television series on 7 continents as a producer and EMMY-nominated cinematographer for content seen on Al Jazeera, Discovery, Hulu, NYT, PBS, Netflix, Showtime, and VICE. I have deep experience working as a one-person band and overseeing crews, am a Part 107 Drone Pilot, PADI certified, a UC Berkeley-trained journalist, fluent in Spanish, and a Boat Captain. With my company Documenting Life Productions I am the director, producer, and cinematographer of 4 feature documentaries including 2 theatrically released Oscar qualifiers on themes including science and technology, the environment, and an especially meaningful film chronicling my Aunt Diana Nyad becoming the first person to swim from Cuba to Florida. I am now consulting producer on NETFLIX’s forthcoming NYAD starring Annette Benning and Jodie Foster. EARLY INSPIRATION IN STORYTELLING As an adventurous kid, I would anxiously await visits from my Aunt Diana Nyad (yes, the famous swimmer!) to tell stories of sled riding at the Alaskan Iditarod or diving with whales in Patagonia while working as an on-air correspondent for ABC Wild World of Sports. Diana's experiences helped set my eyes on a future in storytelling and I spent my college summers working 80 hours/week as an NBC Production Assistant, plotting my post-college career in Hollywood. FROM UNDERGRAD TO GLOBAL ADVENTURER Destined for my own adventures, I finished undergrad in Barcelona, backpacked around Latin America and Asia, landed in war-torn Colombia volunteering for human rights orgs, and found a new drive to make a positive impact on the world. A Hollywood assistant job didn’t sound attractive anymore, yet work in Colombia wasn't paying the bills so I attended UC Berkeley’s Graduate School of Journalism to acquire real-world journalism training while working as an Assoc. Producer for the doc series PBS Frontline/World and as a summer reporting fellow at the Phnom Penh Post, Cambodia. After winning the best doc prize at Berkeley, I felt I was on the path to a meaningful career. After film school, I started my career in New York City as a Production Assistant and editor. It was exciting to balance my time between production and being on set and post production and editing a project for months at a time. My first producing job was a music video for James Taylor. I moved to Los Angeles and produced music videos and commercials. Soon after, I found myself going to Nashville to produce country music videos for Brooks and Dunn, Toby Keith, Brad Paisley, Dolly Parton, Martina McBride. I have been nominated for 14 Academy Of Country Music Awards for Producer / Best Music Video and have won the award 5 times. In-between the music videos I would produce commercials for clients such as FORD, Tropicana Juice, Kraft Foods, Varilux, Kia, Jack Daniels and Blue Cross to name a few. ​ Always keeping busy, I moved into Television producing specials and long form DVD's for NBC, ABC and FOX. Savannah Bloch is an American/South African filmmaker and graduate of the USC School of Cinematic Arts. Her feature film directorial debut, And Then There Was Eve, won a 2017 Jury Award at the Los Angeles Film Festival and opened numerous Women’s Film Festivals across the U.S. As a digital producer/cinematographer, Savannah created 50+ mini-documentaries for Hearst Digital Media and over 300 videos for medical education. Shooting documentary footage of Chinese neocolonialism in Nicaragua, the eviscerating impact of shrapnel on Syrian refugees and rural surgery in remote Bolivia have reshaped her view of the world and unearthed more questions. Marianela Maldonado and Robin Todd are filmmakers who have developed a film and television career in the UK, Europe, South America and US, by writing, directing and editing both short and feature films, documentaries and animations. They have filmed the feature film "Children of Las Brisas" shot over seven years on one of the most dangerous slums of the world. As documentary filmmakers they have directed and produced a tv series for South American Broadcasters Biopiratería and Indigenous communities, worked in Independent documentaries in Venezuela, Bolivia and Colombia. They have also shot current affairs for BBC World and recently, they have been working for Univision in short documentaries. Robin and Marianela created Invento Films, a film company in Souther California where they have been developing fiction, documentary and animation.
