Hi! I'm an Atlanta-based filmmaker specializing in editing and sound design. I originate from Western NC where I graduated from WCU with a BFA in Film and Television Production in the Spring of 2022. My school connections led me to Local Cinema Studios, where I got my start as a DIT and Assistant Editor, which later turned into an opportunity to Sound Design. Now, I've done both in some facet for films, small businesses, and all sorts of other media. Last year, I got an opportunity to edit and sound design the feature film, Hero, funded by USC and The South Carolina Film Commission, which is currently on its festival run. James Benton II is a director, writer and producer based in the Atlanta Metro area. A Georgia native, he studied at the Savannah College of Art and Design and graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Film and Television in the Spring of 2014. After graduating, he took the role as the main video director and editor at Rolling Out Magazine, an urban media company based in Atlanta and franchised throughout major metropolitan areas in the United States. After working there for approximately two years, James has been perusing his own path in creating independent works under his own production company, Black Mecca Inc., LLC, that specializes in a style of filmmaking and storytelling that focuses on moral and ethics and how everyday people shape and mold our extraordinary world.

The challenge of sifting through the puzzle pieces of raw audio and video and assembling them into a compelling story is extremely rewarding. I have over fifteen years of experience in post production, which admittedly, makes me feel old. But at least I have a decent portfolio to show for it.
