I am a visual storyteller, having studied journalism at the Kenya Institute of Mass Communication, with specific focus on Film Production. The ability to bring visual stories to life excites me a lot, this passion leading me to working with leading media houses in Kenya, this includes a stint with the national broadcaster KBC and K24 TV, as a camera operator and video editor. Most recently, I worked for the leading media development organization in Kenya, Internews Network, as TV trainer where I was responsible for training and mentoring of journalists and assisting journalists with production of high quality, factual stories. I have since gained valuable experience by being exposed to technical, theoretical and practical aspects of journalism, always being driven by a strong desire to effect change in the world by producing visually strong, compelling and factual stories. I am a freelance professional Photographer for 2 decades and I also collect B roll on shoots. For the past 14 years, I have been living a full life on the road, nomadically traveling from commission to commission. This has resulted in 8 years working in mostly South Asia, a year in South America and for the past 5 years, I have been concentrating my photography in Africa. However, the formidable camera system provides image quality of the very highest level and it is rare to see photojournalist using a digital Hasselblad. Sarah Waiswa is a Ugandan-born, Kenya-based award winning documentary and portrait photographer with an interest in exploring the New African Identity on the continent. With degrees in sociology and psychology, Sarah worked in a corporate position for a number of years but decided to pursue photography full-time. Sarah’s work explores social issues in Africa in a contemporary and non- traditional way. Her work has been exhibited around the world, and most recently at the Africa Fashion exhibition at the Brooklyn Museum. Her photographs have been published in the Washington Post, Bloomberg, and the New York Times, among other publications and she has worked with brands such as Christian Dior and Chloe. In 2021 she founded African Women in Photography, a non-profit organisation dedicated to elevating and celebrating the work of women and non-binary photographers from Africa.

When I(Kevin Gitonga), a freelance photographer, was on assignment I came across this inspiring story but I couldn't figure out how to tell the story in a captivating way so as to create more awareness. I was determined to tell the story which revolved around the issue of poverty in spite of having no background in storytelling.
