I am happiest with my family and close friends, preferring to avoid large unfamiliar groups. Over time, I have developed my way of interacting, which helps me connect with the people I photograph. Since March 2020, I have been working as a consultant photographer for WHO Nepal and have also worked with other international agencies like USP, KOICA Nepal, UNOPS, UNFPA, UNHCR, ICIMOD, and the Asia Foundation. I also mentor photography workshops for Nikon Nepal and in my company, Photo Venture Nepal Pvt. Ltd.(PVN), which educates beginner photographers through workshops and interactive sessions. My Name is Shyam Karki. I was born on 21st July 1984, and raised in the village of Banepa, Kavre on the outskirts of the Kathmandu Valley.My career in the film industry started 15 years ago when I got involved working with Kesang Tseten the renowned screenwriter from Nepal.I worked with Kesang at Shunyata Films on his works such as Castaway Man, Hospital, Trembling Mountain, Out of the corner, and The Realist. I later spent some years in the Middle East where I worked in the national media house in Dubai as construction progress photographer and videographer. Later when I returned to Nepal, I worked as a video journalist for some of the International News Channels. While doing so, I also worked on my own films. u ayo ayo (The experience), BLOCKADE, In my town,Travel is plus plus, Keri china ( I have nothing) were some of my films that were screened nationally. My passion for being an aspiring documentary filmmaker was not only limited to films. I also worked commercially for some of the developmental and project progress films to the local organizations and NGOs.They were mostly hydropower and drinking water projects like JICA Nepal (Pokhara water treatment and Story Chanel). Currently, I am involved in running a production house based in Kathmandu, Nepal. Besides that I provide workshops and equipment rentals to some of the local filmmakers. Also providing logistical support to filmmakers coming in Nepal to produce a film. The experience of working for almost two decades in this industry has inspired me to grow and pursue better storytelling, here in Nepal.

Born in the Everest region of Nepal, Ngima Gelu Sherpa is an independent filmmaker based in Kathmandu. His debut documentary short film, Home, premiered at Internationale Kurzfilmtage Oberhausen in 2021 and was awarded the Prize of Ecumenical Jury – Honorable Mention. His sophomore documentary short, Kathmandu Monsoon, premiered at DMZ Docs 2022, and it was also in competition at the New Orleans Film Festival. Previously, he also made two short fiction films: Adaptação (2020) won Audience award in Greece, and Phulsiri (2016) was awarded Best children film in Nepal. Sherpa holds MA in fiction film direction from Kino Eyes: The European Movie Masters program (2018 – 2020) involving stints in Lisbon, Edinburgh, and Tallinn, for which he received a full Erasmus plus scholarship. Prior to that, he completed Bachelor in Media Studies at Kathmandu University. He is also alumni of Rotterdam lab and Berlinale talents.

Journalism was my functional paper in Bachelor degree. I finished a Masters in Rural Development in 2008. Since 2006, I have been traveling all over Nepal while on different assignment; from urban to remote locations, I’ve worked as a fixer, translator and local producer It’s a job that’s taken me to the extremes of Nepali society, one day interviewing the richest man in Kathmandu, the next staying with the country’s most deprived people in a rural area. I work for foreign media on a wide range of subjects and I have a strong understanding of my client’s goals. Thanks to that I established a vast network of connections all over Nepal, with, for example, local journalists, police and local leaders. Being connected is paramount as most people are not listed in the Nepali Yellow Pages. I am not a tour guide, nor am I a travel agent.
