After graduating with degrees in Filmmaking and Science Communication, I have progressed through the broadcast television ranks to work across a variety of genres, in a variety of roles. From working as a director on shows for National Geographic and Discovery to directing, shooting and editing shows for South Pacific Pictures, Greenstone TV and Al Jazeera, the work has been incredibly varied. A decade ago I decided to take editing more seriously, as it not only gave me more work opportunities, but it made me a better shooter. There is nothing like trying to edit the footage you have shot. Five years ago, I shot and directed a 10-part observational series for Discovery about people working on the frontline of Borneo's conservation. For four months I travelled to some of the most amazing places, got up close and personal with species and told stories about the good people trying to protect the environment. Since then, I have worked in China, Vietnam, Thailand and the Yukon on Canada. I love being on location, capturing life as it happens and tackling any challenging story scenarios. I am highly motivated and love to test the boundaries of what can be achieved, no matter what the budget or supposed limitations.

A lawyer turned journalist and broadcaster with more than twenty years' experience across television, radio and print media, Damian Christie is the founder and director of the Aotearoa Science Agency. Damian combines a constant curiosity and desire to communicate about the world around us, with a strong understanding of what it requires to take a story from concept to delivery on nationwide media. In 2017 he was recognised for his work with the Prime Minister's Science Communication Prize, which led to the establishment of the Aotearoa Science Agency. As a filmmaker, James Fink-Jensen has taken on every role in film production. Since early 2015, James has worked as a premier football game videographer for Eastern Suburbs AFC. He is their digital and social media assistant and on occasion, livestreams premier games to Facebook and YouTube. James also currently works for Magness Video, as a camera operator at the Auckland Trotting Club's harness races. For the majority of the time, his camera is fed into the live feed for television coverage. Similarly, from 2015 to 2017 he worked for Baseball New Zealand, as the recruitment videographer for players seeking overseas scholarships. In late 2019 until early 2020, James worked for Oceania Football Confederation and Auckland Cricket. He would operate a wide camera for livestreams. James has also taken up various freelance work for Pillars New Zealand, EXIT Films, the New Zealand International Film Festival, Shot Darts, the World School Sevens, Quivervision and Auckland Fringe Festival. The work for NZIFF in mid 2018 involved assisting with filming various directors. Likewise, for the Fringe Festival in early 2020, he filmed and edited artists’ interviews.

Charlotte is drawn to people with interesting life stories and those who challenge today’s societal conventions. Her work often embraces surrealism and, coming from a music video background, she attempts to push conventional storytelling boundaries in a visually striking and compelling way. Having worked as an editor for 14 years, storytelling is ingrained within her. This coupled with a strong visual style helps her craft stories that are poetic and emotionally driven. Charlotte has directed numerous award-winning music videos for artists including Kimbra, Aldous Harding, Benee, The DMA’s and Marlon Williams. In 2018 Charlotte directed ‘Give Kate A Voice’, a short film that commemorated 125 years of women’s suffrage in New Zealand and won multiple awards. Her short documentary ‘Nowhere To Be’, following cinematographers from around the world and their experience of the COVID-19 pandemic in April 2020, is currently being entered into festivals. In 2020, Charlotte's short film ‘OK Chlöe’ was acquired by The New Yorker Documentary, featured on The Guardian, Short of the Week and numerous festivals. Following on from the success of her short, Charlotte is currently in production on a follow-on feature documentary. She is also in development on two further feature documentaries, is completing a Sundance TV writing course alongside co-writer and producer Madeleine Askwith and has several short films, a feature film and an additional television series she is developing.

I am a DoP and editor based in Wellington with 10+ years experience in editing, cinematography, lighting and camera with own equipment (Canon 5D full cine rig w/ full set Zeiss prime lenses), and a member of the New Zealand Cinematographers Society (N.Z.C.S). I have DoP'd 2 feature films, 25+ short films, shooting on formats ranging between DSLR (5D) to RED Epic to 16mm film, numerous music videos, and countless corporate & training videos. I have shot and edited a number of documentaries and corporate videos in the documentary/out of studio style and am currently shooting a feature film 'mockumentary'. Over the previous 15 years I’ve had the privilege of working on a huge variety of projects, from international advertising campaigns, online content, through to award winning feature films and TV series. When I reflect on this content I’ve created, what stands out as being memorable and aspirational, is the quality and substance of the ‘story’. So I take great care to find the sense and purpose of a story, the flow and rhythm of the narrative and their relationship with the visual choices in how they can hold a viewer's attention. While I have been involved with all types of content creation ranging from TVCs through to long form documentaries, I don’t have a preference, I just love the challenges of creating content that sticks with a viewer. Where I believe I am different compared with my fellow editors is that I like to spend time in the shadows between sound and vision. I believe that well crafted stories combined with carefully selected vision can take a story so far, but they can be taken further by pushing the interplay of the visuals within the sonic landscape. I’ve been an amateur photographer for 15 years and have had a passion for video for even longer, whether that be in front or behind the camera. I enjoy telling stories through the lens of a camera.
