Duc Nguyen has been television producer and journalist for over 10 years. Duc, an avid traveler, has done video documenting work in Vietnam, Cuba, the Andes mountain and in the Amazon river, South America. In 2007, he produced and directed Bolinao 52, his first feature documentary. The documentary portrays the ill-fated journey of a refugee boat that drifted 37 days at sea. The film won the audience choice award for 2007 Vietnamese International Film Festival. It garnered two Northern California Emmy Awards in 2009 for Outstanding Documentary and Music Composition. I'm an author, journalist, writer/director/producer who's produced over 200 non-fiction television shows for outlets such as The History Channel, Discovery, PBS, etc. In order to sharpen my skill as a shooter, I shot a 13 part travel series for PBS. Thought that was a better than taking a weekend course. As an investigative reporter I've uncovered numerous hidden stories about nuclear accidents, pollution and other environmental issues. I've covered the automotive industry for years and have won awards for my history of the automobile. I am a writer/producer/editor/fixer based in LA, CA. I work with digital productions companies writing and producing content for non-profits and individuals looking to create anything from explainers to short form narrative films. Most recently, Univision asked Wondros, a company with which I work, to create a piece which would advocate for U.S. immigration reform. I wrote and directed an interactive film that compares a day in the life of an undocumented family to that of a documented family. My documentary origin story is an unlikely one. I graduated from Skidmore College with a degree in Modern Dance and Creative Writing. After a colorful stint as an au pair in France, I made my way to the Salt Institute for Documentary Studies in Portland, ME where I studied radio and multimedia production. It wasn’t long before I was hooked. On I went to NPR and PRX's State of the Re:Union where I worked on an hour of stories about transgender life in America. Then, I came to NPR West in Los Angeles to work as a Production Intern for Weekend All Things Considered. And now, I'm taking off across the United States with my partner and collaborator, Steven B. Jackson, in search of our country's untold stories.

The aim of my work is to empower communities by connecting their stories. I’ve traveled to the most remote corners of the U.S. filming the impacts of climate change on human lives – families in Arkansas rebuilding after an oil spill, a small town in California’s central valley running out of water. I documented the United Nations conference on climate change in Paris and flew over the Alberta Tar Sands, giving voice to a First Nations community living downstream from one of the worst ecological disasters in the world. Past clients include The New York Times, Segal Family Foundation, Tom Steyer, Sir Richard Branson, American Way Magazine, NextGen America, and Barack Obama's 2012 campaign.

In 2014, Ortiz’s short film Listen was awarded Most Unique Short Film in Ben Affleck and Matt Damon's HBO TV Show Project Greenlight. In 2015, his film Wake Up was chosen as 1 of the 12 best international short films to screen at the 2016 Festival De Cannes. In 2017 and 2018, he completed a 3,500-mile drive across America to direct a documentary series called the Drive For Men's Health.
