I am the owner and creative director at ReelSmart Productions. Over the past decade, I have singlehandedly built a full-service video production and marketing business from the ground up, in the highly competitive NYC digital media market. My video products have consistently delivered the marketing results my clients have sought – from helping startups raise millions in capital to helping books reach New York Times Best Seller status. As an agency owner, I’ve amassed expertise in both the business and creative sides of production. Creatively I can work as a one-man-band, or assemble and direct production crews and other teams of creatives to execute the perfect product for my clients. My skill set spans the full production gamut: developing the strategies and creative concepts, scripting, locations and talent, directing, shooting, editing, animation, and promotion. But this is only part of what I do. At bottom, I’m not only a video producer but a marketer. I create digital marketing assets and show my clients how to use them strategically across their websites and social media to build audience, boost traffic and dwell time, and increase conversions. I have extensive experience creating content for every stage of the sales funnel including brand videos, social content, explainers, testimonials, Q&A, and product videos and more.

I am a Bulgaria-born, Chicago-bred, Brooklyn-based photojournalist, editor and writer, driven by a passion for creative visuals, science, technology, climate change, the economic and political state of the world, art, architecture, anthropology, the beauty of the written word, and the true sense of equality. I aim to create and curate visuals with style and meaning — whether in a historic context or just beyond the surface of mundanity. What's more, as an immigrant to U.S. shores, I very much care to bridge humans’ understanding of one another — and most of all, connect the work I do as a woman in a male-dominated industry behind the camera, to how women manage in the world in front of it. My current and past clients, both across the States and the world, have included National Geographic, The Washington Post, The New York Times, Getty Images, Reuters, NPR, The Wall Street Journal, The New Yorker, The Chronicle of Higher Education, THE CITY, Bloomberg, Yahoo News, AFP, Rolling Stone, Nature, Discover, New York magazine, Sports Illustrated, Newsweek, TIME, USA Today and the Chicago Tribune, among others. I have received awards from PDN’s Photo Annual, NPPA, American Photography and TED's Visualizing Climate Change contests; grants to further my projects from the National Geographic Society, the Pulitzer Center, the International Women's Media Foundation, Getty Images + Panasonic Lumix and Leica Camera; and have exhibited my work via Photoville, Leica Camera, the International Center of Photography and Bulgaria's National Gallery of Art. I have also taught journalism and photography courses and led workshops through the Pulitzer Center, Brooklyn Public Library, NYU, The School of The New York Times/Fordham University, and Leica Camera USA. Giancarlo Mariutto was raised to play professional tennis in Wesley Chapel, FL and when that didn’t work out, he made his way to NYC, where the nearest tennis court was unaffordable. Since then, he has created Emmy award-winning content for Disney, Discovery Films, Nickelodeon, PBS, Cartoon Network, and Comedy Central. He’s most proud of his work with the US Department of Education, developing educational programming for low-income households. Outside his career in media, Giancarlo enjoys performing comedy at NYC theaters that used to exist, like the UCB and PIT. For the sheer fun of it, he gives tours as a licensed New York City sightseeing guide and hopes to someday trap you at a party to talk about how a 13-mile island grew from a rickety Dutch trading post to the world's greatest metropolis.
