His work has screened theatrically and appeared on TV networks such as Discovery, Comedy Central, CNN, Aljazeera, and PBS, as well as online magazines including Indian Country Today, Washington Post, Mind Body Green, Seattle Times, GQ, California Magazine, The Nation and elsewhere. Recently he is the Director of Photography on a film commissioned by the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian directed by Tracy Rector (2021). Steve also filmed the Seattle episode of a new doc series with Academy Award® nominated director James Longley (2021) and is DP on a series of branded content spots for Mackie Audio Products, produced by Lucid Visual Media (2020). Hyde has served as an additional cinematographer on numerous other films including the SXSW (2021) best documentary Lily Topples the World by director Jeremey Workman. SKATE DREAMS (2021) by Peabody Award® winning director Jessica Edwards. EVERGREEN: the road to legalization (2013) and SPAWNING GROUNDS (2020) both by Emmy Award® winning director Nils Cowan and as the Super 8 cinematographer on the hit music video by Grammy Award® winner Macklemore “GOOD OLD DAYS” (2018) In addition to working as a cinematographer, Steve is a teacher and social scientist who enjoys producing low budget documentaries and branded content for non-profit organizations dedicated to environmental justice, social change and youth advocacy. Currently he shares technical knowledge by teaching pop-up cinematography workshops.
