Hello friend! My name is Jason, and I wanted to tell you a little bit about who I am and how I got here. I grew up in Cleveland, Ohio, where as a young kid, I earned the nickname, Creative Boy, due to my constant outflow of youthful creative energy. Whether it was performing for my family, building things out of toilet paper rolls, writing stories on the Word Processor, filming skits with my cousin, or learning how to use a computer, I was constantly pushing the limits of my creative mind. In 2003, I ended up in New York City, where I went to NYU Film School and earned my BFA. My college education set the foundation for a career in the arts and entertainment industry. And I’ve had an incredible career so far! I’ve traveled the world with my video camera in hand, from Beijing to Haiti, Bonnaroo to SXSW, and the Grammys to the Oscars. I’ve gotten the chance to talk to amazing people, film and edit inspiring stories, and make friends, all while staying true to my creative nature and drive! My passion is telling stories, and I’ve found that the best way for me to do that is through documentary filmmaking. Documentaries allow me to craft a story, and put the puzzle pieces into the right place. I can apply my skills as a musician as well, as music and rhythm are a huge part of any documentary project. Brittainy Newman is a freelance visual journalist based in New York City. A 2018 graduate of the Rochester Institute of Technology’s Photojournalism program, she joined The New York Times as a year-long photography newsroom fellow in 2019. She now works for The New York Times and The Associated Press as a frequent contributor. Her work takes the familiar and turns it on its head, by viewing the world from a strange, but illuminating new angle. Common themes in her work are the exploration of loss and sacrifice, as they play out in the sphere of family, politics and labor.  To date, Brittainy has had ten (10) front page covers above the fold for The New York Times. In 2021, The Associated Press selected two of Brittainy’s images to be included in “A Year That Changed Us: 12 Months in 150 Photos” — a special issue that relives the most significant moments through extraordinary photographs captured by photographers of The Associated Press. She also had two images featured in The New York Times “Year in Pictures” for the year 2020, a portrait of President Joseph R. Biden and a self portrait documenting her quarantine during lockdown. And in 2019, The New York Times selected her image of a couple kissing at Pride for the “Year in Pictures.” In 2018, she placed gold in the Individual Multimedia category at the 73rd College Photographer of the Year competition, and achieved an Award of Excellence in the Portrait category. The son of Jewish South American immigrants, he moved around a lot as a child, which helped him to develop a lifelong interest in documenting the lives of strangers and culturally ambiguous communities. Leah Galant is a Jewish filmmaker and Fulbright Scholar based in New York whose storytelling focuses on unexpected narratives that challenge perceptions. In 2021 she was recognized as one of DOC NYC’s 40 under 40. While at Ithaca College in 2015 she was named one of Variety’s "110 Students to Watch in Film and Media” for her work on THE PROVIDER that follows a traveling abortion doctor in Texas (SXSW 2016, Student Emmy Award) and BEYOND THE WALL about a formerly incarcerated individuals re-entry process. She was a Sundance Ignite and Jacob Burns Fellow where she created DEATH METAL GRANDMA (SXSW 2018) about a 97 year old Holocaust survivor named Inge Ginsberg who sings death metal which won “Best Documentary” at the American Pavilion at Cannes Film Festival, and is a NY Times Op Doc. Leah is a member of Meerkat Media worker-cooperative film production company. Leah's directorial debut ON THE DIVIDE premiered at the Tribeca 2021 Film Festival and will broadcast on POV PBS in the Spring of 2022 which she also shot.
