The natural and diverse landscapes of Puerto Rico, gave Darlien (pronounced "Dahr-Lee-N") Morales, while growing up, a tremendous appreciation for the environment. She fell in love with documentary filmmaking during her Film & T.V. BFA pursuit at the Savannah College of Art and Design; it allowed her to combine her passion for art and philanthropy while satisfying her adventurous spirit. Today, her film, Beneath Paradise has won more than 4 awards, 7 nominations and 11 official selections. Her cinematography and producing skills have taken her to work on projects with topics ranging from working conditions of coffee farmers in Guatemala to aspiring entrepreneurs in the favelas of Brazil. When not making films or exploring nature, she is drawing. Her illustrations have made it to book covers, scholarship auctions, and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Services programs to protect endangered species. Darlien’s strong appetite for knowledge has and continues to push the limits of creativity in her works. As founder of Kirutungo Productions she aims to show the beauty and fragility of the world through art’s lens.

I currently work as a director and independent editor for the advertising and film industry in Puerto Rico. My work as an artist seeks to transmit human stories from a sociological perspective, where the most basic needs, prejudices, cultural phenomena, social castes and my own everyday experiences are reflected. Recent projects include several short documentaries for the Institute of Puerto Rican Culture and the National Endowment for the Arts on the history and impact of its cultural programming around the island. In the past months I was also selected to participate in a workshop on the Meisner method for directing actors, which took place at the International Film and TV School of San Antonio de los Baños in Cuba. Additionally, I had the personal advice of a professional scriptwriter while working on the script of my next short film "Dónde está Catalina". This story is based on my first feature film−currently in development−titled "La Fuga". My creative practice is tied to the reality of the country where I live; its idiosyncrasies, colonial nuances, the relationship with the Caribbean and the individual search for redemption. In short, my purpose is to showcase a social portrait of Puerto Rico and contribute to culture through film art.
