I have a story for you. Well about you, really. It started when you were born and the world was shiny and new. In fact, everything you encountered had a mysterious wonder to it. Each leaf a miracle, every a blade of grass a world unto itself. As you grew older however, you began to notice less. Responsibilities and schedules vied for your attention and the walk to work was filled with people in your way instead of fascinating humans, each with a story of their own to tell. As your world became narrower, your heart became harder. Then one day, a seed of a thought wandered into your brain and it took hold. It whispered, "Open your tired old eyes, and see the world anew." My mission is to water that seed. As a filmmaker and a wilderness instructor with a passion for adventure, I aim to challenge others to see the beauty in life. Oregon-based director Cambria Matlow’s work seeks meaning in charged moments of stillness and values the emotional experiences created from atmosphere and mood. Small interactions and environmental realities often reveal personal and political truths. Her latest film, WOODSRIDER, is an immersive documentary portrait of a female snowboarder on Mt Hood, set to premiere in 2017. Ali is a documentary filmmaker and photographer who has a true vocation for sharing stories of the human spirit. Ali started her documentary career Co-directing and shooting a documentary film with the Martha Graham Dance Company and the Interlochen Arts Academy's dance department back in 2008, and since then has worked all over the country photographing and producing for some of the best filmmakers in the industry. Ali's work has taken her into surgical amphitheaters documenting open heart surgeries, to alpaca farms in rural Maine, meeting and photographing the Dalai Lama, to documenting woman and their experiences during post partum. Recently, Ali was the Assistant Producer and Assistant Editor on a PBS documentary on the History and legacy of the Mayo Clinic, executive produced by Ken Burns in association with Ewers Brothers Productions. Ali has worked on several of Ken Burns' projects such as Emmy nominated series Cancer: The Emperor of All Maladies, a production by Ken Burns and Barak Goodman at Ark Media, The Life and Times of Jackie Robinson, The Address, and the Vietnam War series. Currently, Ali is Co-Producing an independent feature length documentary with Director and Cinematographer Lindsay Taylor Jackson on a man who lived through the Velvet Revolution in Czechoslovakia titled Velvet Citizen. Tracy Rector is a mixed race Choctaw/Seminole filmmaker, curator, community organizer, co-founder of Longhouse Media and a 2016 Stranger Genius. She has made over 400 short films, and is currently in production of her fifth feature documentary. As co-producer of the award-winning film Teachings of the Tree People, producer of March Point, co-director of Clearwater, and director of Ch'aak' S'aagi; Rector has developed an awareness and sensitivity to the power of media and film as a modern storytelling tool. Her work has been featured on Independent Lens, Cannes Film Festival, ImagineNative, National Geographic, Toronto International Film Festival, Folklife Festival, the Seattle Art Museum and in the Smithsonian’s Museum of the American Indian. After years of galvanizing community and working in a directorial role, Rector has begun to transfer her method of storytelling to gallery exhibitions including YOU ARE ON INDIGENOUS LAND at Core Gallery and Ciné Alter'natif in France, WOMEN ON THE BRINK at Vermillion Gallery, and BLOODLINES at Bridge Productions. As a Native Education specialist, Rector has facilitated work with over 3,000 youth, worked as a consultant with the Seattle Art Museum (SAM), served as a Native Naturalist for the Olympic Sculpture Park, and is involved with SAM’s newly expanded Native American wing. Jordan Thierry is a Portland, Oregon native and a graduate of the University of Oregons School of Journalism and Communication. While at the U of O, he co-directed the Multicultural Center, served as President of the National Association of Black Journalists Chapter, and co-founded BRIDGES to Higher Education, a high school-to-college tracking program for high school students of color in Oregon. He also directed and produced the short documentary Footprints in the Struggle: The Beatrice Cannady Story, as his senior project. This short documentary aired on Oregon Public Broadcasting in 2006. Immediately following his graduation from the U of O, Jordan went on to pursue a Masters degree in Mass Communications and Media Studies Howard University, where he finished in 2009. During graduate school, he worked as a Program Coordinator at the National Coalition on Black Civic Participation, coordinating the Black Youth Vote! program.
