I have a story for you. Well about you, really. It started when you were born and the world was shiny and new. In fact, everything you encountered had a mysterious wonder to it. Each leaf a miracle, every a blade of grass a world unto itself. As you grew older however, you began to notice less. Responsibilities and schedules vied for your attention and the walk to work was filled with people in your way instead of fascinating humans, each with a story of their own to tell. As your world became narrower, your heart became harder. Then one day, a seed of a thought wandered into your brain and it took hold. It whispered, "Open your tired old eyes, and see the world anew." My mission is to water that seed. As a filmmaker and a wilderness instructor with a passion for adventure, I aim to challenge others to see the beauty in life. I love telling stories, exploring deeper meaning, and helping others discover their potential through adventure and reflection. I am primarily a documentary filmmaker, having produced and directed Ty's List, a feature length documentary about the grieving process and living life to the fullest. I'm a filmmaker and video producer currently working for Grist, a Seattle-based media non-profit that focuses on environmental news and commentary. My focus is on social issues and its intersection with a wide range of topics like the environment, food, justice, immigration, culture, gender and race. Having reported from India, Singapore, South Africa and now the U.S., I strive to bring different and underrepresented perspectives to the fore. My stories are predominantly character-driven, using one compelling voice to paint a larger picture. Prior to Grist, I was an intern at Vox.com, where I produced videos for their politics and social team. I'm a recent graduate of Medill, Northwestern University, with a master's in journalism. Kent Truog is a freelance multimedia producer and photographer whose work focuses on issues of conservation, social justice, and cultural preservation. He was a producer on MTV Exit's human trafficking documentary series, is a regular contributor at the World Wildlife Fund, and has partnered with numerous international NGOs to further their philanthropic mission through creative storytelling. Kent is a strong believer in collaboration and hopes his work draws attention to marginalized populations throughout the world. Some of his past projects have involved telling the stories of young women on the verge of aging out of an orphanage in Honduras, gender empowerment through coffee farming in Kenya, critically endangered dolphins in the Mekong River, and most recently he supported a first response unit as a photographer to document the immediate aftermath of those affected by Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines. Jesse Andrew Clark has spent the past fourteen years honing his visual style in cinematography. Both a creative force and technical mastermind behind the camera, Jesse has taught filmmaking workshops in northern and central California, including the Esalen Institute and UC Berkeley. Jesse has worked with Sundance-winning director Frederick Marx in honing his new feature film as well as National Geographic stereographer Peter Chang in order to hone his timelapse technique. Hailing from Portland, Oregon, Martin Vavra is an award-winning film and commercial director. Early on, he had a love for a variety of different art forms. At the age of five, he began playing the drums. Later, he toured Europe as part of an orchestra. At the age of 10 he began painting water colors, with several of his paintings getting showings and winning awards. His college years became a mishmash of rock band performances, science classes and sci-fi consumption. For many years, Martin was a wildland fire fighter, eventually becoming an ecologist. In 2005, wanderlust caught hold and Martin left ecology to travel, leading him to discover his true passion, filmmaking. Since then, his life has been dedicated to cinematic storytelling. Martin’s series, The Last Stand, made its debut on DailyMotion and has received millions of views. Living up to the Rising Star title awarded to him by the Oregon Media Production Association, his films have been awarded numerous honors, including, Best Short Documentary and Best LGBQT at the Breckenridge FF, Festival Jury Prize at the Humanist Film Festival, Best Director, Best Series and Best Score. Commercial work has included spots for Nike, Microsoft, Intel, HP, Daimler and Goodwill. My goal as a journalist is to inform, educate, engage, and inspire my audience. With Journalism today, I find it more important than ever to provide a well-balanced and objective approach. Since licensing my first photograph series to both NBC and CBS in the Spring of 2011, I have become increasingly active since graduating from Northern Arizona University and the Student Media Center newsroom. After graduation, I was hired by the Southwest Learning Community division of the National Park Service to produce and complete a series of micro-documentary projects focusing on the Arizona park system. Since then, I have continued my battle in the trenches of multimedia. I'm James Allen Smith and I've been making TV & films for over 12 years. I wrote and produced five seasons of A&E's Emmy Nominated HOARDERS. I have also edited and directed various commercials including a national TV campaign for ZULILY. Oregon-based director Cambria Matlow’s work seeks meaning in charged moments of stillness and values the emotional experiences created from atmosphere and mood. Her latest film, WOODSRIDER, is an immersive documentary portrait of a female snowboarder on Mt Hood, set to premiere in 2017. I am a writer/ director born in Lesotho. After completing a degree in Film and Media Production I was involved as writer in a few productions, first assistant director, researcher and script supervisor in an international feature titled 'The Forgotten Kingdom'. For three years I was also a junior lecturer in the Film and Television department at Limkokwing University of Creative Technology in Maseru. Andrew Stanbridge has been traveling and photographing throughout Southeast Asia for the past 15 years. His first work documented the continuing modernization of Thailand, Laos and Cambodia, which continues to be a theme that he returns to frequently. While traveling through these countries (particularly Cambodia and Laos) his interest was piqued by the histories of conflict that his own home country of America had been involved in and the recovery from the aftermath of these conflicts. For the past 5 years he has concentrated on this theme by addressing the physical, emotional and cultural scars left from the various wars fought in these countries. During this time he has spent time clearing and photographing unexploded ordnance, gone on patrol with ragtag armies and spent countless hours hearing the stories of those whose lives have been affected by the vestiges of war.
