Josh Chitwood was born in Indiana in 1994 and was raised in a small southern Illinois town. As a transplant family from Indianapolis, and with Syrian-Lebanese roots, his family did not fit the mold of this rural town. Filmmaking and the creative process became his outlet at an early age. Throughout high school, Josh began developing his craft by making skate films, short documentaries and videos for his parent's church. In 2012, Josh moved from Illinois to Minnesota where he met his wife, Morgan. In 2014, Josh and Morgan started a film company called Chitwood Media. The heart of their work is to create films that cultivate inspiration, expand perspective, empower community and affirm hope. Their films reflect the unique creativity ingrained in each individual that goes beyond mimicking the popular. The themes of their storytelling and cinematography challenge misconception, reveal beauty, and reflect their personal faith. In October of 2021, the two relocated their business from Minneapolis to Indianapolis. In his free time, Josh enjoys spending time in his home and community with Morgan and their three sons, Marquelle, Reggie and Tony.

I have loved every kind of media since I was young. Movies, TV Shows, Video Games, Music, I ate it all up like a hungry man at an all-you-can-eat buffet. I am fascinated with the way stories can evoke reactions from people. Everything from laughter, to sadness, to fear, to anger, can be brought out by something that someone is watching and all I want to do is create things that bring these emotions to the surface. I pride myself on having a unique sense of style and flavor that will make people say "Wow, never seen that before". I strive every day to create my own voice to separate my works from the rest of the crowd and am always looking for feedback from superiors and co-workers alike so that I can make my works the best they can be. I am big on taking criticism as I believe the only way to get better is to be told what is and what isn't working. I have a lot of experience editing video and sound for various projects and have written many scripts that have received much praise. I have also written for independent films that are currently in production and have gotten great feedback from those who hired me. I always put just as much passion in to the projects I am hired to write as I do with something I come up with myself. I guarantee you will not be disappointed.

Video storytelling within a marketing context is that sweet spot where story is so much more than art – it’s a form of compassion and empathy. Story is what moves people to action, whether it’s to bring people to your website, motivate a donation or sale, or help your customer fall in love with your brand. The stories I want to tell are stories that serve a purpose – that understand the heart of your target audience. What is it that leads your audience to believe in your product or mission? What do they care about? What motivates someone very different than me? It’s story that brings a brand to life. ​ I’ve worked with a wide array of brands, organizations, and artists to bring their purpose and mission to life. To do this well, it’s important to start with parameters – an understanding of the target audience. My favorite projects let me spend some time with the people served by your product/content so that I can tell the story through their eyes. I love working with research and creative teams. Give me parameters or a goal. I can take that and run with it on my own – or we can sit down and plan things together.

I've got one simple belief that drives my personal and professional life: people need connections and the best ones come from communication that’s real and simple. A communicator to the core, all work and no play wouldn't really bother me, but I have my fun too: I love hanging out with my wife and three sons whether at home or on the road. We're all Disney fanatics who visit Disney Parks annually. I'm an amateur chef who spent this summer building a traditional brick pizza oven in my backyard. And like any real professional at a video production company, I'm an avid fan of watching movies. The project I'm currently most excited about is Finding Hygge, the first feature-length documentary film our team at 12 Stars Media has produced. It's a journey to find the real meaning of the Danish word hygge, through a glimpse into the lives of the happiest people on the planet.
