I started out as an assistant producer then an assistant editor. Soon enough I started to edit and became a freelance editor. At ESPN Brazil I had the opportunity to also start shooting. So I would work as a video reporter covering mainly two wheel action sports and then edit what I shot into a 26' television show. Then I went to TV Globo and also worked as a video reporter for one of the country's most critically acclaimed news program. I've received a Líbero Badaró journalism award and also worked at the show's International Emmy nominated episode. I also wanted to work on a fictional show and so I worked as an assistant director at O2 production Company for HBO Brazil drama series "Psi". After that I was hired to be a content producer at Opa! Production Company for the "We All Love Beer"project. A branded content page that featured 48 videos about the world of beer for Globo.com and AMBEV. Now I work as a freelance visual storyteller.

Joan Prowse is a writer, producer, and editor with 30 years experience creating TV, video and on-line content that connects viewers to compelling well-told stories using the most up-to date technologies and distribution platforms. Joan’s documentaries, arts biographies, and factual series and short videos have explored timely issues and been broadcast worldwide including contracts with Discovery, TLC, A&E, CBC and TVO. Joan has a track record for completing projects on time and on budget, and selling them around the world. She licensed programs from her celebrity profile series Lucky Breaks to A&E Television in the United States and the international hit, Beauty and the Beach, was licensed to broadcasters in twelve countries on four continents. Now in international distribution, her Juno nominated music biography Buffy Sainte-Marie: A Multimedia Life showcases the multi-faceted career of this Native American icon and her contribution as artist, native rights activist and educator. She’s produced the new multi-platform initiative, Green Heroes, with TVO. The project encompasses a series of television programs and short Internet video profiles about everyday and celebrity people who have championed an environmental cause. Her interest in the environment is further demonstrated with the production of documentaries for the Discovery Channel, an appointment to the board on the Planet in Focus Environmental Film Festival and leadership training with Al Gore’s Climate Reality Corps. Joan has gained valuable expertise telling compelling stories in a short video format. She's created 28 one-minute video profiles of celebrated Canadians commissioned by Global Television for their Northern Lights series and over a dozen two-minute videos for Paul Kane Interactive, CineFocus Canada’s interactive documentary on DVD and a museum exhibit located at the Royal Ontario Museum. Developed during an eight-month CineFocus Canada residency at the Canadian Film Centre’s, Paul Kane Interactive pushes the boundaries of storytelling by engaging users to interact with arts based content aimed at showing early settler’s influence on aboriginal life. In addition to her interactive, biography and documentary programs, Joan has produced over 50 videos for the non-profit sector and for federal and provincial governments. These projects cover a range of topics including: cultural issues, environmental initiatives, community health, social programs, international development, and labour initiatives. Several of these programs have been produced in French and English. Joan is an alumnus of the Canadian Film Centre, the National Screen Institute, the Banff New Media Centre, OCADU's Imagination Catalyst, and Ryerson's Radio & Television Arts program. She began her career as a researcher and field producer on TVO’s flagship literary series Imprint, hosted by Daniel Richler.

In a world of abundance, my years of experience in the industry allow me to create content that stands out. I began as a Director/Producer committed to understanding the message, emotion, and strategy applied to the creative. Applying the truth of documentary with the polish of cinema. As the content landscape evolved, so has my perspective. Today, I possess an extensive understanding of all creative disciplines with a T-shaped focus on film and motion. I lead new business pitches while crafting a compelling story and advocate for every campaign including a multi-channel approach. I understand how all the pieces fit together and can lead conversations around what content will drive a bigger impact on a client’s business. I enjoy contributing to the strategic development of an assignment and leading a group of cross-disciplinary teams. My experience spans a wide foundation of integrated campaigns, social content programmes and B2B-focused films. At the heart of my approach is curiosity paired with a commitment to creating something new every time. I specialize in getting to the emotional core of campaigns through telling stories with striking visuals, and dynamic images – ultimately creating a visceral audience experience.

I worked in advertising before becoming a visual artist, first as an account executive then as an art director. After moving to a tropical island (true story), I took a little detour and went to culinary school, working in professional kitchens along the way. Eventually, I hung up my apron and started shooting and writing about food. My passion for photography, motion and writing became culinary storytelling, and my tools for self-expression. As I continue to evolve and broaden my scope as a storyteller, I lean on each discipline—art direction, culinary arts, photography, writing—to help guide my work and my vision. Bold ideas thrill me as do colour and print, drama and whimsy. I'm equally passionate about the potential of a strong, stand-alone image as I am about the creative components in a captivating film. I'm based in Toronto + Los Angeles and create everywhere. Let's make some killer work together.

I’ve been an artist since before I can remember. It all started with drawing. At 12 years old I was doing stop motion and Claymation and by the time I was 14 I had shot my first short film. Fast forward to my 24th birthday, when I decided to go get my master’s degree from my dream school (USC’s School of Cinematic Arts). By then I had finished a Bachelor’s Degree in Visual arts, played bass for a band in front of hundreds of people, had songs played at and been interviewed on national radio, had three music videos I directed on MTV Latin America’s top 10 (with one # 1), and had shot and edited a live rock concert that would go on to feature as part of MTV’s world stage series, and be sold in record stores. That still wasn't enough. So, I left my band and my burgeoning career as an up and coming music video director in Colombia to pursue my dream of being a film director. Thus, I moved to Los Angeles, where I got my MFA, and then stayed 6 years total until late 2015. During this time, I worked as an independent director, doing short form content for artists and clients. I Co-wrote, produced, co-directed and edited my first feature length film, and I worked as a cinematographer on another feature, meanwhile working in developing film and TV projects for one of my USC mentors, as well as for myself. In late 2018, my wife and I moved to Vancouver Canada, looking for a new start. In my time there, I taught film directing at Vancouver Film School, was a Creative Director at Appreciated Media, and then for the past two years Creative Vice President and Producer at Crank Media, a company where I got to assemble from the ground and lead a talented creative team, as well as pursue the production of various long and short form projects, including developing long form projects, shooting a TV pilot, all kinds of content for social media, photographing our music label’s artists, shooting their videos, and I even got to supervise the creation on 3D metaverse style world prototypes. I moved to Toronto in late 2022, and decided to start working for myself again.
