1 reviewRich Williamson is an Oscar-shortlist filmmaker based in Toronto. He graduated from Ryerson University in 2008 focusing on cinematography and editing. He has since worked as a freelancer, shooting and cutting films, corporate videos, trailers and TV programs for well-known brands and companies, as well as fellow independent filmmakers.
His award-winning short films including Frame 394 (2016), The Sugar Bowl (2011), Joe (2012) and Unsinkable (2012) have screened at festivals worldwide including the Hot Docs, IDFA, LA Shorts, Atlanta, New Orleans, St Louis, Hot Springs, Sidewalk, Big Sky, and Aljazeera Film Festivals.
Rich participated in the Reykjavik International Film Festival’s 2013 Talent Lab and completed the Canadian Film Centre’s Cineplex Entertainment Film Program in 2015.
His latest film, Frame 394, is part of the inaugural round of the CBC’s Digital Doc Shorts initiative. It had its world premiere at the 2016 Hot Docs Film Festival in Toronto, and went on to win Best Canadian Short at NorthwestFest, Best Documentary Short at the Academy Award-qualifying Rhode Island Int’l Film Festival, Best Documentary Short at the Sidewalk Film Festival, the Audience Award for Best Documentary Short at the New Orleans Film Festival, and Best Documentary at the Charleston Film Festival. It was named one of TIFF’s Top 10 Films of 2016, and is currently nominated for 2 Canadian Screen Awards.
