Charlie Luckock is an award-winning documentary filmmaker who works on a freelance basis. Charlie has produced and directed films for numerous international broadcasters including National Geographic, the Discovery Channel, Smithsonian Earth, Love Nature and CGTN. After receiving a Bachelor of Science in Zoology Charlie moved to the documentary hub of Bristol. Over 5 years he honed his skills under the guidance of some of the best producers, directors and execs in the industry. In 2015 Charlie’s time in Bristol culminated with him producing and directing WILD INDONESIA for National Geographic. In 2017 Charlie directed his first feature documentary NIGERIA’S LOST GENERATION, which premiered internationally on CGTN and won the Best International Documentary award at Jozi Film Festival. Charlie went on to direct FAR FROM HOME, winning the Outstanding Documentary award at the Abuja International Film Festival. In 2019 Charlie directed OUR OCEANS, a feature documentary exploring the industrial threats facing the South African coastline. The film has been screened around the world and continues to spread awareness about the conditions of our oceans. Charlie has just finished his latest film THE EDGE OF EXISTENCE – a feature documentary on human-wildlife conflict. The film is currently on a worldwide festival tour and has recently won the Best Humans & Nature Film at the Wildlife Conservation Film Festival in New York.

Filmed in the Western Corridor of the Serengeti over the course of 3 years, The Edge of Existence reveals the untold story of human-wildlife conflict in Africa. This global issue has reached crisis levels, threatening the survival of both humans and wild animals alike. The film tells the story of key characters on the ground in Tanzania who face daily challenges as they struggle to coexist with Africa’s wildlife. The Edge of Existence is seen through their eyes and told from their point of view. “Human-wildlife conflict is an incredibly complex issue that impacts a huge amount of people worldwide. It is an issue that needs urgent attention and I hope ‘The Edge of Existence’ will stimulate discussions in communities through to governments about how this conflict can be resolved before it is too late.”

Set in the Okavango Delta, the inhabitants of the small communities of Ditshiping & Boro live an unconventional way of life of human- elephant co-existence in an ecosystem which is home to the majestic African Elephant Species. Driven by an instinct to stay alive, both human life and wildlife are on an even scale in this ecosystem. Due diligence of respect to territory is the only way to stay alive for the people of the wetlands. The aim of this documentary is to express how the unconventional lifestyle of the people of the Okavango Delta has had a major impact in conserving the elephant species of the Delta. Four female characters invite us into their unconventional lifestyle of human-elephant co-existence. Their story reveals the spectacular connection humans have with nature and their due diligence to respect of territory, all entirely based on human instinct and the sole purpose of survival.
The giraffe is an icon of Africa, thousands of tourists travel around the globe every year to see them in the wild, yet in the last century giraffes have gone extinct in 7 countries and their numbers continue to fall dramatically. Since the mid-eighties, giraffes have been on a steady decline. Population numbers have dwindled by 40%, leaving less than 70,000 adults in the wild. That is just one giraffe for every five African elephants, yet very few people are aware of their situation. Over the course of a year the film crew travel across the continent to join the fight to save these gentle giants, bringing awareness to their plight and ultimately, helping to prevent its silent extinction.
