First time working with this team...great pictures. Little niggle stuff that can be dealt with in the next piece.
This five-part web documentary was proposed, researched, planned, scripted and reported by me. It involved cultivating contacts, planning travel arrangements and structuring a reporting plan across a vast stretch of remote and difficult-to-travel territory in Kenya's rugged north. Kenya's camel herd is one of the largest in the world. These drought-resistant livestock have been kept for centuries as a source of food and prestige, but with climate change driving drought, they're increasingly being looked at as a viable commercial venture. Tune in from May 3-7 and follow CGTN Africa's Daniel Plafker on a five-part journey across the changing landscapes and nascent opportunities of Kenya's northern frontier.
Voiced broadcast package filmed in a rural setting. It’s been two decades since Zimbabwe’s land reform policies began to fulfill the promise of putting previously colonized farmland back in the hands of indigenous residents. But twenty years on, the output of some key agricultural commodities still faces steep challenges. CGTN’s Daniel Plafker traveled to Zimbabwe’s citrus orchards to learn how the sector is faring. #FocusOnZimbabwe
YouTube-style voiced and animated explainer video relying on graphics and archival footage. The Chagos Islands are Britain's last remaining colony in Africa. UN courts have ruled their occupation of the archipelago illegal. Hundreds of uprooted islanders were forcibly deported by Britain in the late 1960's and are still fighting to return home. On this Mauritian Independence Day, we ask when all of Mauritius' legally recognized sovereign territory will finally be free.
Broadcast live-cross from Mauritius during the very early days of COVID-19. The opening weeks of the coronavirus outbreak in China prompted global governments to issue ill-fated travel rules. Crossing live to the studio from the field during the network's daily business bulletin, I break down the situation as it unfolds.
This video showcases my skills as a presenter and my studio work as an interviewer. Rainforests are critical ecosystems that suck heat-trapping carbon emissions from the atmosphere. In Africa, the Congo rainforests play a crucial role by absorbing about 4 percent of the earth’s carbon emissions. But human activities like logging, mining and commercial agriculture have continued to threaten these rainforests. CGTN Africa's Daniel Plafker looks at what's at stake.
Ukrainian grain ships are finally arriving at East African ports. They're sailing as part of the Turkish and UN-brokered Black Sea Grain Initiative, and bringing much-needed relief to a region gripped by historic drought.
