About

My names are Joshua Owino, Im a storyteller, a father, and a community journalist. I produce stories with local and foreign journalists around Nairobi, but primarily in my community. I live in Kibera, Africas biggest slum, a place with many stories to tell. Over the past four years, Ive developed skills as a reporter, editor, and a cameraperson. Ive produced stories for Kibera News Network and Mother and Child TV. I also did camerawork and narration for From Wild to Digital, an award-winning documentary, and Ive done some work with DW (German radio), and a short documentary on fire for the Red Cross. Im most interested in producing human interest stories that can result in positive change for people living in informal settlements. One of the stories Im most proud to have worked on was about the work of traditional birth attendants in slums. I also did an investigative story looking at how safe it is to eat sukuma wiki, Kenyas most popular vegetable. When Im not producing, I help pay the bills by fixing electronic equipment. In my spare time, I love to cheer on my team, in the English League.
