Basel Mawlawi was raised in Damascus, Syria and received his Bachelors of Arts from Middlesex University (UK) and a Professional Diploma in Film Production from the SAE Institute (Australia). Basel worked for over four years as a producer and production manager on a number of documentary projects in Amman, Jordan and Damascus, Syria and produced a short film called Patchwork House that premiered at the short film corner 2013 Cannes Film Festival. Basel currently works as an independent producer in Malmö, Sweden. He recently produced the 12-part documentary series for Al-Jazeera called Camera and a City which follows the travel adventures and cultural explorations of an Egyptian journalist.
