Sana A. Malik is a Pakistani-Canadian filmmaker and journalist who was most recently a video journalist at BBC Global in New York City. Her first short documentary, Guanajuato Norte, was awarded a BAFTA Student Film Award and is a two-time recipient of a Pulitzer Center grant. She has published visual and written stories for CBC, BuzzFeed, VICE and the Toronto Star. Before making a full-time switch to documentary journalism, Sana worked in public health and gender in Tanzania and the U.K. and consulted for the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Sana runs an award-winning digital magazine called This is Worldtown that is focused on Women of Colour visual storytellers upending simplistic media narratives. Sana is a graduate of Columbia University’s School of Journalism, the University of London-LSHTM and the University of Toronto. She is fluent in English, French, Urdu and conversational in Spanish, Swahili and Arabic.
