I am a filmmaker with experience in business management and project entrepreneurship. My production experience has focused on documentary filmmaking and narrative films with a social impact angle. I have produced work in Cambodia, Thailand, Dominican Republic, Haiti, Colombia, Peru, and several locations in the United States. After receiving his doctorate in sociology at the University of Paris X, France, Gérard Schmidt created and managed a film company whose mission was to produce and distribute cultural documentaries and short films with an international focus. He sold his catalogue at major international TV conventions such as MIP, MIPCOM and NATPEE. I am an Italy-born freelance multimedia journalist based in Brooklyn, NY. I've covered various national stories for Fusion TV and the Juvenile Justice Information Exchange, shooting and editing video news stories and short documentaries. I covered the Dakota Access Pipeline controversy in 2016, self-producing an award winning 16-minute documentary. I covered the construction of the southern leg of the same pipeline in the swamps of Louisiana, shooting and editing a short documentary for Fusion TV. Crystal Kayiza grew-up in Oklahoma and is now a Brooklyn-based documentary filmmaker and 2018 Sundance Ignite Fellow. Her work focuses on pursuing more nuanced and diverse storytelling about Black communities. She is a recipient of the 2017 Jacob Burns Film Center Woman Filmmaker Fellowship. As a Woman Filmmaker Fellow she directed and produced, Edgecombe, a short documentary examining the ways trauma repeats and reinvents itself in a rural Black community in Edgecombe County, North Carolina. After graduating from Ithaca College in 2015 with a degree in Documentary Studies and Production, Crystal spent two years at the ACLU working on racial justice and criminal justice issues.
