Since I was a child I have been in love with film. Moreover since I can remember I have considered myself a storyteller. It began with writing and translated into video. I am a constant observer and experiencer, one who notices the little things. I hunt for the little detail in every story no matter what topic or form, that connects all of us through human nature. I use myself as a test, as a guinea pig, to go the extra mile to try and understand. I value humor and positive energy. Im Elissa, a visual journalist in Washington, D.C., covering food security through a project funded by The McCormick Foundation. I completed my undergraduate work in documentary film, worked as a video producer at Palio+Ignite, and am now pursing a masters degree in video journalism at Northwestern Universitys Medill School of Journalism. I just finished a short film about the housing crisis in Chicago. The film follows the Anti-Eviction Campaign as the organization takes over abandoned properties left over from the foreclosure crisis on Chicagos South and West sides. Hi there, I'm Tamer Shaaban. I am a Filmmaker and a UX Designer. The cross between technology and film is what keeps me up at night. I am the mother a teacher and a writer. I began telling stories through documentary film in 2006 after winning the BET Black AIDS Institute RAP IT UP Screenwriting Competition with a story about how AIDS affected a black church. I look for the obvious stereotype and try to understand it from a different perspective. My films have studied how the words we use create conflict or compassion in our communities, and examined whether streets named after Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. reflect his dream. I am currently developing a documentary about Individualized Educational Plans (IEP) and the Special Education system.
