Hi, I'm Shanna Freedman, freelance Line Producer, based in Johannesburg, South Africa. I bring a dedicated and goal-oriented work ethic to the mix and deliver highly engaging content. Working now at frayintermedia producing documentary and short form video as well as online and social media friendly video. We do animations, full length video or just clips. I use Panasonic pro gear with lapel miss, booms, and the whole shebang. Or just a Smartphone. A lot depends on the requirements. Editing on FCP and Adobe Premiere, Motion and After Effects we produce content for companies, NGO's, and publishers/broadcasters. I have been in the film and tv industry for the past 37 years as cameraman / DOP / Director / Editor and Producer, working mainly on documentaries. I have worked in 48 countries internationally, with the bulk of my work on the African continent. I have filmed two Himalayan mountaineering expeditions as well as the first expedition to navigate the Amazon River from source to sea. Local documentaries include "The Place of the Elephant", "Namaqualand - A gift from the gods", "The African Game" - a six x half hour series, "Flight to Freedom" on the aerial translocation of elephants from Botswana to Angola and "Ghosts of the Miombo" - the search for Angola's famed Giant Sable antelope. In 2013 I was the sole cameraman on "Voetspore", shooting 13 x 1 hour episodes of an expedition crossing Africa on the Equator.

I have been filming and recording sound for broadcast and corporate productions for over 15 years working with various cameras and sound rigs. My career in this industry started when I was employed as an assistant at a camera rental house and from there I progressed to managing the rental floor which eventually led to me ultimately finding my passion which is operating the camera and recording sound. I have worked as a camera operator and sound recordist for a wide array of projects working with broadcasters such a Canal +, CNN, BBC, Eurovision and Channel 4. My experience in shooting long form documentaries with tight deadlines and having worked in the television industry has made me accustomed to having to work under extreme pressure, I am able to take initiative where necessary and am able to work independently.

I am a freelance multimedia journalist based in Cape Town, South Africa. I film and write for various media publications on African politics and stories of social justice. I also work with Code4SA (code4sa.org) a civic-tech company that uses data for social justice. One of my recent projects featured on one of South Africa's biggest media sites, News24. I filmed, edited and wrote stories surrounding the exploitation of domestic workers in South Africa. ( http://living-wage.news24.com/ ) The story led to a tool which allowed for employers to calculate whether they were financially extorting their employees - and it led to a national debate that sent waves across diverse media platforms and radio stations. I am fascinated with capturing marginalised stories that challenge the perception of Africa, and that create a platform for the voiceless.

I am the cofounder of a solar powered mobile cinema Sunshine Cinema. My husband and I run an apprenticeship based production company Makhulu out of Cape Town working across Africa with 13 years in the industry.
