Director & DOP for 11 years now. In total, I have Shot & Directed FOUR 'Ob Doc Broadcast TV shows' and all up TWELVE Ob Doc Budgeted TV pilots. It all involves Conjuring up Stories on the spot, writing the Voice Overs in Post and having a knack for bringing something to life. Inbetween what feels like a 1000 Corporate Videos. So how did it all begin? I started my 1st TV Broadcast Credit with a Show I was the 'DOP' and 'Director ' for, called Search4Hurt, which was sold to ESPN. A gruelling Fitness ObDoc Series. During this time I was mentored by ESPN’s Host of ‘Aussies Abroad’ at the time Jason Bennett for two seasons before moving on. He taught me how to tell a story better while I Shoot, Direct and Post Produce. My work caught the eye of Post Op Group, the largest Post House Facility in Australia who do all the big shows like ‘The Block’, ‘My Kitchen Rules’ etc. They decided they wanted to start making their own TV shows for the first time under the name KlinikTV and hired me as their 'Director / DOP' I helped construct seven TV Pilots with Aussie celebrities during my time there and one Broadcast 'DOP' Credit on CH 7. I was heavily trained and mentored daily by great and very experienced TV producers in the industry that worked there. My Freelance career started after this creating High-Corporate videos too grueling Ob Doc shows. I have travelled the world Shooting and Producing from Antarctica to Mt Everest Basecamp and all around our great land Australia. Now about to film my fourth Feature Film.

I have worked as a broadcast news and current affairs journalist for the past 17 years, and more recently as a video journalist. Im passionate about the possibilities that video journalism offers to tell the stories that otherwise dont get told. Its been my long-held ambition to make the transition from news and current affairs reporting to full-time freelance video journalism. While I would be happy to cover any story that Storyhunters commissions, Im particularly interested in those that deal with issues of social justice, welfare and the environment. I believe video journalism is at its best when it focuses on people and communities. The most compelling way to explain events and involve viewers is to show how people are affected. Ive included links to 3 stories I filed as a video journalist for Australian public broadcaster, SBSs current affairs program, Living Black. The stories demonstrate my shooting and scripting skills. Im based in Australias capital, Canberra where there are plenty of stories to be told, and Im happy to travel interstate or overseas if required. Im excited by the prospect of working for Storyhunters and support its philosophy.

I recently directed There Goes Our Neighbourhood, a documentary commissioned by ABC with finance from Screen Australia, Create NSW and Pozible crowdfunding. The film captured a community light sculpture project and social action campaign developed by the residents of Sydney's largest public housing estate at Waterloo. The project reached over half a million people, and put a human face to the public housing debate, as questions arise about the redevelopment of inner city estates in Australia and globally. Currently I am producing a theatrical documentary feature about Wanita, 'Australia's Queen of Honkytonk', a chaotic, talented country music singer who after 47 years of imagining and hoping, is taking one last glorious stab at stardom in the USA. An entirely unpredictable story about the chaos of human 'dreams' and Wanita's unique journey to leave her mark. As a producer and director I empower the subjects I collaborate with, focusing on artists, communities and social change. I have the advantage of having worked extensively with the arts sector, which has made me a unique storyteller. I am able to identify meaningful narratives that connect with audiences while also balancing the intentions of a project, with the logistics. I have directing, producing, project management, curating and writing experience. After training in Documentary at AFTRS, I have worked in various roles as a creative producer, director and researcher for television, digital agencies and independent films. I am motivated, hardworking and perceptive. Experienced in wrangling big ideas, significant budgets and tight deadlines. Tell me about your project!

LITERALLY, there are things the Australian public would not see if Gary Ramage did not photograph them. Ramage, a triple Walkley Award-winning photographer, is one of Australia’s leading news and documentary photojournalists, with more than 30 years experience in the industry. From Shapelle's Corby through to the Christchurch massacre and most recently the Australian bushfires that ripped through last summer, Ramage has been there behind the lens capturing history. As the Chief Photographer for News Corp, Ramage was the first photographer deployed by the national news desk for assignments that needed complex problem solving, social perceptiveness, critical thinking and most importantly, the shot. There are some assignments that all a photojournalist has to work with is one hundredth of a second, and Ramage never failed to deliver. He has travelled extensively around the world on news assignments and is the complete package: he can think on his feet, work in the field, has the technical skills for print and digital imagery - and has excellent knowledge of current affairs. Before joining News Corp, Ramage spent 20 years as a military photographer, latterly serving as the Australian Army’s Chief Photographer. He has documented conflicts all over the world including Somalia, Bougainville, Bosnia, Kosovo, East Timor, Iraq and Afghanistan. Ramage is a passionate photographer who is dedicated to maintaining high standards. He is an exceptional logistician and planner. He also has strong communications skills and an outgoing personality which endears him to the people he photographs. His most recent feature work involved turning that lens on himself. "From the shallow graves of Kosovo to bloody battlefields in Helmand province, this has been by far the hardest photographic assignment of all — documenting the day my father Joe moved into a full-time care facility for people with stage-four dementia," Ramage, wrote for a pictorial essay featured across News Corp publications. "Whether to photograph the event at all was a struggle, but my father raised me always to tell the truth. How could I continue to crash into people’s lives with my camera when they are at their most vulnerable and yet not to have the courage to do it with my own family?" Ramage's work has appeared NEWS CORP editorial network - reaching 10 million readers every week across print and digital platforms for the past 16 years.
