Xavier B.
Los Angeles, CA, USA
My name is Xavier Burgin. I was born in Washington DC's cold embrace, raised in the thicket of rural Mississippi, earned a degree from Alabama's largest educational plantation, and now reside in Los Angeles. I am an African-American male currently in my third semester as a graduate student at USC's School of Cinematic Arts. I am applying through P.O.V. specifically dealing with Black Male Achievement. I direct, shoot, and produce narrative and documentary films that speak to poignant personal problems or circumstances in the community. I've directed and shot two documentaries. One dealing with mental illness in Southern Communities, and another about the tornado which hit Tuscaloosa, AL in 2011. I'm currently at USC's film school studying directing and cinematography. My last film dealt with the expectations of black male athletes to follow sports, even if they have another passion.
