My name is Elijah Kanyi, a Filmmaker. Born and bred in Mathare Slum, one of the biggest slums in East Africa, I have learnt many life lessons and witnessed so many injustices. Being born in a slum is like being born in the wild; life there is a classic case of survival for the fittest. I have seen it all. One of the best things i have gotten from Mathare are good friends who have helped raise my life's standards, reminded me of my essential purpose and challenged me to be the best version of myself. I am who i am today because they give me the courage and confidence to tell their stories through the lens- a cameraman. My biggest motivation for taking this line of work came from what the media aired about Mathare. There were many stories to be told but the slum residents did not trust the reporters because they were strangers to them. As a resident of Mathare Slum, it is easier for me to source for stories ranging from corruption in the constituency development fund to robbery and police brutality. I have gained the trust of the residents and they call upon me to air their grievances and hardships.

I am a TV producer and reporter with appreciable 5 years’ experience. I have worked in local stations and also produced content for international stations. My name is Toni and I'm a Kenyan based factual producer. After receiving TV and film production training at the Mohamed Amin Foundation, I won the Kenyan Kalasha award for best documentary in 2008. My first job was working as the producer the pioneering human rights TV Show, HATUA TV Talk Show. HATUA was sponsored by OSIEA and was one of the first TV talk shows in Kenya to discuss homosexuality on prime TV in 2008/9. I have produced reality style documentaries for broadcast on BBC-World and MTV Europe. Recently worked as director and producer for “Silicon Safari documentary”, for broadcast on Al Jazeera in late 2013 – the documentary follows the progress of Nairobi based app developers on a mission to develop an agriculture-based app, in seven days. I was the creator and series producer of the human-interest documentary series, “From here to Timbuktu”, commissioned by one of Africa’s cable channels for broadcast in late 2013. I'm currently in development for a TV series on youth subculture, for a Pan African channel. My name is Achola Rosario and I have been an artist all my life and a producer for 20 years. I’ve had the opportunity to work with people from Kenya and across the Pan-African creative space to create works for local brands such as Safaricom, East African Brewers Limited, and KCB Bank as well as international brands such as Coke Studio Africa, East Africa’s Got Talent and Netflix. I’ve also had the honor of working as the production coordinator on the ground-breaking Kenyan feature film – Rafiki.
